Overview
Famously referenced by Mark Twain in, “Life on the Mississippi” White Bear Lake is named after its largest lake. Once proclaimed, “One of the most popular resorts in the magic northlands,” White Bear Lake has retained its small-town charm and is located on the north-eastern edge of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
Distinct for its small town character, the beautiful downtown area of White Bear Lake hosts many events showcasing some of the greatest things about this lakeside community. From the celebration of Manitou Days and Marketfest in the summer to the BEAR’ly open Winter golf tournament on the ice, the downtown area is alive with fun festivals and special events for the whole family throughout the entire year.
The “Scare in White Bear” 5k begins at West Park, closest to the downtown area and along scenic Lake Ave.
Be sure to join the post-race reception for performance and costume awards ceremonies which will take place at the nearby official host restaurant, Washington Square Grill in downtown White Bear Lake.
This is part of our J.A.M.S. youth race series.

Course Profile
This course is about as flat as they come; the path is smooth and fast, featuring lengthy flats (there’s never an elevation change greater than 12 feet...) that hug the shoreline of White Bear Lake.
The run course is a gorgeous, asphalt paved run out of the park and along Lake Ave. This run starts on the east side of "West Park" in dowtown White Bear Lake. The course begins by taking a clockwise loop around the park and then heading south on the path that follows the shoreline. Runners stay on the path and turn around just before the path intersects Hwy 61.
Runners then make their way back on the same path until they reach the southeast corner of "West Park" again, at which point, they hang an immediate left and run one more clockwise loop around the park, finishing right where they started.
Fluid replacement (water and HEED) will be available at the halfway point (also the turn-around) and at the finish area. Volunteers are stationed throughout the course and at critical turns/areas.
Finish Area
The finish line is located on the path across the street on the east side of the park (the start and finish line are the same line...). The finish area, where spectators and finishers can gather, watch, cheer, etc... will be adjacent to the start/finish line and is encompassed by the park itself.
Volunteers will assist in removing Race Number tags or timing chips. Bottled water, HEED, fresh fruit and other post-race snacks will be provided.
Awards and Prizes
Every participant receives a short sleeved shirt. Kids will receive an orange cotton t-shirt and finisher
medal. Be sure to join the post-race reception for performance and costume awards ceremonies which will take place at the nearby official host restaurant, Washington Square Grill in downtown White Bear Lake.

- Top overall Male & Female athletes
