Become a better swimmer!

Whether you're a complete novice or an experienced triathlete, we have you covered.  Throughout the winter, we'll be holding hour-long clinics for beginners as well as intermediate-level swimmers.  See below for more details on each!

For those looking for in-depth swim coaching, we also have private swim sessions.  The cost is $65 for 30 minutes or purchase a 4-pack for $220.   This includes video analysis from our coach.

Intermediate Swim Clinic

Limited to 6 participants per session

Who:  This clinic is designed to improve swim comfort, efficiency, and speed.  Improvement in each of these areas will develop the foundation for a faster swim with less effort.   Ultimately, a better swim can also lead to a stronger bike and faster run!  You should be able to swim at least 6 lengths of the pool without stopping.

When:

  • Saturday, December 20th, 2014 at 11:45am-12:45pm
  • Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at 11:45am-12:45pm

Where:  Xperience Fitness in Vadnais Heights (map)

Why:  Our experienced swim coach will be able to help you get the most out of your swim, giving you help to get the most speed with the least effort, leading to a better overall race.

Get all of this in the clinic:

  • Stroke efficiency analysis
  • Coached workout within a small group and individual attention.
  • Customized training program focusing on improved swim efficiency and technique for each athlete. Individual programs will include swim workouts, swim drills, and swim specific strength work.

Who:  Anybody that is interested in learning how to improve their swim technique (which is most of us!).  This is geared toward beginning swimmers, and not those with advanced skills.   This is for you if you can’t swim 2 lengths of the pool without feeling exhausted OR have yet to put your head in the water.  The focus will be on body position and balance, which is integral to learning how to swim effectively.

When:

  • Saturday, December 20th, 2014 at 10:30-11:30am
  • Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at 10:30-11:30am

Where:  Xperience Fitness in Vadnais Heights (map)

Why:  Because swimming is EXCELLENT excercise, and most of us can improve our form.

Cost:  $35

Please wear a swim suit or Jammers, as you will be in the water.

Andrew Turner - Tri Coach, Swim Coach

Hometown: Scandia, MN, now living in Saint Paul.

Some of my favorites: Anything outside, count me in. Besides swimming, biking, and running, I love to go backpacking in Colorado and Minnesota, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and recently started kayaking. I started to hit the trail running and biking this year, nice change of pace every once and awhile. I love to set difficult goals and push the limits to see if I can achieve them.

Fitness Background: Growing up, I was involved in every sport you could think of. Eventually I found swimming and cross country and fell in love. My cousin introduced me to long distance cycling, and since then it is hard to get me off a bike. My main focus is long distance triathlons, but in the last few years I have gotten into road bike racing and cyclocross racing.

20+ Triathlons from sprints to Ironman with many age group wins, one amateur overall win, and multiple top ten overall finishes.

2010 Ironman World Championship; PR 9:52

Competitive in multiple road bike and cyclocross races yearly.

Currently working on my USA Triathlon coaching and USA Cycling certifications.

2 years of coaching experience with triathletes.

Tracy Angelo - Swim Coach

Hometown: Forest Lake, MN

Some of my favorites: My family! My puppies! Don Julios! LSD (long slow distance) runs with friends! People! Hackie Sac! Diet Coke with lime and a good cup of coffee!

Fitness Background: I have been an Aquatics Supervisor for 13 years and an Authorized Provider of The American Red Cross. I am a Lifeguard Instructor, a Water Safety Instructor, and a FA/CPR/AED Instructor for the professional and workplace. I have run 8 marathons with a 3:53 PR. I love working with athletes and getting them excited about swimming. You must have a purpose in the pool - let me help you with that purpose! My coaching philosphy is "Everyone is a Someone!"

Hometown:  Racine,  WI

Some of my favorites:  Jumping in a lake or fountain after a hot run, curling up in bed when your body is hurting after a hard workout, beating up on training partners during practice, dogs.

Fitness Background:  My primary sport was swimming for 12 years, culminating in swimming backstroke and sprint freestyle at the University of Minnesota.  I have always struggled with asthma, and now I am healthier doing sports that keep me in the fresh air.

I love to cross-country ski in the winter and the variety in triathlon training keeps things fun.  Some notable race experiences I've had include competing in the draft-legal sprint at the USAT Collegiate Nationals and the American Birkebeiner ski race.  I have had some awesome coaches and teammates throughout the years who have influenced my approach to training and competition.  I think race-day confidence comes from being familiar with the pain from training and working on "the little things" on a day-to-day basis.
