Fast Before The Feast
10K, 5K, and Fun Run / Thursday, November 24th, 2016 / 8:00AM / White Bear Lake, MN
This event is close to home for all of us here at Tri Fitness. First, it’s right in our backyard - Fast Before The Feast is hosted from Tri Fitness in White Bear Lake. We’re part of a wonderful community of neighborhoods and businesses. Second, and more importantly, we’re aware of and deeply affected by the growing hunger problem at both the local and national levels.
According to Hunger Solutions MN, 1 in 17 Minnesotans rely upon local food shelves to help feed their families. In our community alone, 300 families visit Hugo and White Bear Lake food shelves each month. The latest statistics show that 1 in 6 Americans is food insecure. Even more shocking is that 1 in 4 children live in a food-insecure household.
We believe it is absolutely vital that we increase our efforts as a business, family, and community towards reducing this problem. We want to be real, we want to have an impact, and we want to be relevant. But, we can't do it alone.
We’re inviting you to join us in this opportunity to be a part of this outpouring of individuals and families across all demographics who are volunteering their resources like never before. Since the race’s inception, you have helped us donate over 29,000 pounds of food to local food shelves.
Perhaps, in the holiday season - more than at any other time - our hearts go out to others. Start your holiday giving by participating in Fast Before The Feast and bring a food or cash donation the morning of the race. We estimate it will take about 2100 participants to reach our goal of donating 10,000 + pounds of food this year.
For donations, the White Bear Food Shelf, in particular, is trying to get healthier choices for families in need. While canned goods are always welcome, the food shelf is also looking for these valuable items:
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Tuna and Meat
- 100% Fruit Juice
- Salad Dressings
- Gluten Free Items
- Whole Grain Pasta and Rice
- Cooking Oil
- Flour and Sugar
- Full Size Shampoo and Conditioner
- Laundry Soap
- And always, cash donations which enable the food shelf to stock as needed.

Course Profile and Policies
The course for both races starts behind the retail and training center, proceeds south through the parking area of the White Bear Sports Center and roams around the quaint neighborhood streets, eventually returning to the start.
Both courses stay away from major roads and are mostly flat except for one hill near the beginning that runners get to climb and descend twice. Both courses are great for beginners, and the more elite runners should find them moderately fast.
Fluid replacement (water and HEED) will be available at the turn-around (halfway) point of the 10k. Volunteers and police officers will be stationed throughout the course and at critical areas.
This run starts behind the Tri Fitness Retail and Training Center (West side) and heads south on Sports Center Drive, and through the parking lot of the White Bear Lake Sports Center until it intersects Birch Lake Blvd.
From there, runners wind through the neighborhood streets until they come to White Bear Pkwy. Runners follow this east until they come to Otter Lake Rd, where they head south. Otter Lake Rd quickly forks and runners should bear right onto Schuneman Rd.
It's a straight shot from here to the turn-around point (almost to the very end of the road). Once runners turn around, they'll follow the same course back to White Bear Pkwy. Runners will eventually hang a right, back onto Birch Lake Blvd, and then return to the start/finish line, via the same path through the WBL Sports Center parking lot.
This run starts behind the Tri Fitness Retail and Training Center (West side) and heads south on Sports Center Drive, and through the parking lot of the White Bear Lake Sports Center until it intersects Birch Lake Blvd. Runners continue to White Bear Parkway for about a block, until they take a left on Bibeau Rd.
From there, runners wind through the neighborhood streets until they come to White Bear Pkwy. Runners follow this West, all they back Birch Lake Blvd, and then return to the start/finish line, via the same path through the WBL Sports Center parking lot.
The finish area, where spectators and finishers can gather, watch and cheer, will be located behind the retail and training center, in the parking lot adjacent to the start/finish line.
Volunteers will hand out medals and bottled water to finishers. Other post-race snacks will be provided by Caribou. Finishers will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal.
Headphones are allowed. Please be aware that this is an open course, so be extra careful about watching for traffic and your fellow participants.
Strollers are allowed. Please start near the back of the pack for the safety of your little one and your fellow participants. If you're super fast even with a stroller, then you can start farther up at the start line, but please situate yourself near one side or the other and avoid the middle.
Pets are allowed. Dogs, anyway. Monkeys and pythons are discouraged. Please only bring your pet if they're friendly and not freaked out by a thousand people, and start at the back of the pack.
