Turtleman Triathlon

Classic or Modern / Saturday, July 29th, 2017 / 8:00AM / Turtle Lake Park, Shoreview, MN

Overview

Back on August 8th, 2015, we revived the "Turtle" - the oldest (original) triathlon in Minnesota! And we're ready for another long streak of Turtleman Triathlons!!

Turtleman was the first triathlon in Minnesota and ran consecutively for 14 years. After a 2 year hibernation, it came back in 1995 continuing on for 14 more years. In 2016, Tri Fitness, along with the City of Shoreview, revived the wildly popular event named after the lake and county park where the event is hosted, Turtle Lake located in Shoreview.

For the Olympic distance, we have two classes, Classic and Modern. Both classes will share the route of a 1 mile out and back swim, 25 mile bike (two loop course), and a 5 mile paved trail run around Turtle Lake.

  • Classic – Steel bikes, regular helmets (no aero anything), no wetsuits, and no electronic gadgets like watches that say how fast you are running or watt meters. In other words, nothing fancy. We are trying to replicate how triathlon was in the beginning.
  • Modern – Anything that can legally make you faster goes. Wetsuits, aero helmets, electronic shifting, fancy watch and power meters. All good.

Whether you want to race "old school" or use fancy new equipment, join us for the return of the Turtle!

Olympic Turtleman Tilt

This year we will also be including a fun challenge, the Turtleman Tilt! It allows YOU the opportunity to put together a relay team that will go up against our team of of trainers - Sharon, Pete, and Megan! Sharon will swim, Pete will bike, and Megan will run. Winners will come away with some serious pride, joy, and ultimately...bragging rights! Will you take the challenge against our team of trainers?!?

NEW in 2017 – SPRINT DISTANCE!

You asked for it and we are here to please. If you are not up for the Olympic distance, consider racing the newly added sprint - 600 yard swim, 12.5 mile bike (one loop of the Olympic course), and 3.1 mile run on paved trail (this is an out and back run). Team options are available.

These are UNISEX shirts and may run a little bit large, so please order accordingly using the size chart below.

Size Chart:

Measure just under your arms, around your chest. The shirts tend to run a little large, so if you're between sizes, you might want to go a size lower, but it's totally up to your individual preferences.
